Health & Welfare

When booking your dog with Curls and Collars you are agreeing that your dog is fully vaccinated and up to date with flea and worming treatment and as far as you’re aware, is fit and healthy. You must also notify us of any changes to your dog's health or temperament, before each groom.

Whilst in our care, all dogs are treated with the utmost care and attention, but grooming of sick or elderly dogs is entirely at the owner's risk.

Please ensure your dog has had the opportunity to exercise and go to the toilet prior to their appointment. However your dog will be taken out for the toilet if needed.

Before each groom we will discuss any pre-existing coat or skin conditions and use shampoos to suit each dog, but if you require a specific shampoo for your dog, please supply this at your own expense.

We do not perform anal gland expression and would advise you to seek veterinary advice, should you feel this necessary.

Although we use extreme caution and care for your dog, with any groom there is a possibility of nicks from clippers, scissors or toenail trimmers. You will always be informed if this happens.

If we become concerned with your dog's health whilst in our care, we will endeavour to contact you immediately, but in emergency situations we may seek veterinary help, for which you will be liable to cover the fees.

Styling

Every effort will be made to groom your dog according to your instructions. However if you are dissatisfied with any part of your groom or if your dog is not to your visual expectations, please tell us before leaving, or as soon as possible afterwards. Records and photographs are kept to track progress and to achieve the style you prefer.

For the safety of the dog and groomer, owners must inform us beforehand if their dog is aggressive or has a tendency to bite. We will not continue with a groom if your dog becomes severely anxious or aggressive, but the full fee will still be charged.

It may be necessary to use a muzzle on your dog for safety reasons, with an aim to calm the dog, prevent injury and complete a successful groom. We do not accept an aggressive dog that puts risk of injury to itself or others.

Matting

At the salon we have dematting equipment that helps us to get through small matts. However, we always put your dogs welfare first and if this causes them pain or discomfort we will shave the matt out, making sure they stay calm and happy throughout the whole groom.

If a dog’s coat is severely matted, we will not cause the dog any unnecessary pain or distress by attempting to de-matt the coat. In this case we may have to shave the matts out of the coat. This will only happen if there is no alternative. Matting can lead to many skin conditions, so regular brushing and grooming is essential.

There may be an additional charge of £15 for a full body shave due to a severely matted coat or a small fee for small matting, to cover the additional time, products and equipment used.

Fleas

If your dog is found to have fleas, we will bathe it with a Ridasect shampoo to kill any fleas present, but an additional charge of £10 will be added to the groom, to cover the cost of treating the premises.

In extreme circumstances if your dog is infested with fleas, we reserve the right to terminate the groom and will ask you to collect the dog immediately. Unfortunately you will still be liable to pay for the full groom and the extra £10 to cover the cost of disinfecting the premises and equipment.

Regular flea treatment will have to be put into place before your dog can return for their next groom.

Late arrivals & collection/Cancellations/Missed appointments

Please arrive on time. If you are more than 15 minutes late on arrival, we may have to reschedule your appointment due to other customers being booked in after you, but you will be charged for the cost of the groom. If you are more than 15 minutes late collecting your dog, without prior agreement or contacting us, you will be charged an extra £5 per additional ½ hour.

We understand that sometimes cancelling an appointment is unavoidable, but we ask that at least 24 hours notice is given. Customers who cancel within this time or miss an appointment will be liable to pay the full cost of the groom.

You will receive an appointment reminder to try and eliminate these circumstances, but hope you understand why this policy is in place.

Social Media

Photographs will be taken and posted on Curls & Collars social media platforms. Please inform us if you do not want pictures of your dog posted online.

Estimates provided at the time of booking may occasionally have to be reassessed after the groom, due to the size of the dog, condition of the coat, style or issues with the dogs behaviour.
